Welcome to
Ludlow Baptist Church
Here at LBC we believe that no one is beyond the love of God, regardless of who they are or what they may have done or how little they think of themselves.
Today is a new day and an opportunity to start again.
So why not?
Putting the past behind us is the only way we can begin to move forward with the rest of our lives, so why try and do it in our own strength when we can have God at the very centre?
Know this: God loves you for who you are.
It is that simple.
We believe in One God, our heavenly Father, his son Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit – the Holy Trinity.
We believe in Baptism by full immersion – unless someone has physical restrictions where alternative arrangements can be made.
We believe that Scripture is the manual for life and we proudly stand on its words.
Please don’t be shy, there’s plenty of ways to join our community and absolutely everyone is welcome.
Whether at Sunday gathering, our weekly community café or an evening group, we’re here to support you on your faith journey – wherever you find yourself along the way.
What is baptism?
What is baptism?
Well, as Peter addressed the crowd in Acts chapter 2 he said to them, “Repent and be baptised, everyone of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.”
He was calling the people to say sorry (repent) for their wrong-doing (sins) and then go on to what we term a ‘full immersion baptism’, as do many other churches today. This actually means to be fully lowered into a pool of water, whether that’s a pool, lake, river or even the sea!
In doing so we are following the example that Jesus himself set out for us, ‘At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Gailee and was baptised by John in the Jordan. As Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove’ (Mark 1:9-10)
Baptism is a symbolic act of ‘washing away our past wrongs’, it’s like being lowered into a watery grave (but only for a second or so!) and saying goodbye to our old way of living, and then, as we are raised up out of the water we are coming up into a new way of living, but this time with Jesus in our hearts.
The ‘saying sorry’ (repenting) and accepting Jesus into our lives coupled with ‘being baptised’ is how we start a journey of Christian faith in Jesus Christ. We are called to ‘believe and be baptised’.
Baptism is also a public declaration of saying ‘I have become a Christian’ that those around us will see and know that we have chosen to change our way of living and to have elected to live a life that is in line with what the Bible teaches and what we trust God is calling us to do.
Having chosen to believe and be baptised Christians become part of the world wide church of believers not just our local church family – we actually belong to the Kingdom (or family) of God!
Baptism is for anyone who wants to say goodbye to their past way of life and chooses to live a life of discipleship for Jesus Christ.
If you would like to know more about being baptised or would like to be baptised then please do get in touch!
